Casually or causally?

'Smaller' and 'pettier' are two different things and should not be casually linked. It amounts to a 'bogus list' in AE terms.

You also could have dinged me on the fact that small and petty can also mean the same thing. If I were a poet it wouldn't have taken me an hour to realize this.

2A = second amendment, right to bear arms.

We are obliged for the clarification. I am glad I live in a country where the right to bear arms is not even extended to police officers.

My neighbor's license plate reads "2A OG," or "second amendment original gangster."

Are you saying that Americans would understand OG as standing for 'original gangster'? Does the number plate indicate support for or opposition to gun control? Do you conduct your chats over the garden fence in morse code?

Anyone GenX and younger. The youngest might not know what it stands for but would say "OG" to mean anyone they considered authentic. It's said guiltily or ironically or knowingly inappropriately (I'm not exactly sure) by white people though, of which my neighbor is one.

Does the number plate indicate support for or opposition to gun control?

Opposition to any controls at all. Very pro-gun. He has the Gadsden flag-themed Virginia license plate (the "Don't tread on me" snake) to be clear that he's pro-gun. No one against guns focuses on the "2A" aspect. They're more likely to focus on the AR-15 aspect of the issue.

You haven't lived there very long?

I know who my local politicians are. My daughter's friend's dad is a councilman. But the town has 1,700 people, so this doesn't indicate that I'm plugged in; everyone is by sheer ratio of population to leaders.

What I meant is that I'm unaware of the types of shenanigans (if any) going on amongst the city fathers, the captains of (goat farm) industry, and the seedy underbelly (if any), as suggested by Irefuse.

Everyone has a daughter who has a friend whose father is on the council. I went to school with a girl whose dad was mayor of Lewisham and gave out the prizes on our Prize Day. Though neither of us got one. (My brother did but that is just another entry in his crime sheet and I won't dwell on it here.)

Family scuttlebut has it that the mayor was a friend of my father (they certainly went to school together) and was instrumental in us getting a prized council house. The one I was brought up in.
