This is a double-blow to our hospice. And, I believe, for many more.
Pre-Covid, as a small charity, depending 75% on donations from the public, and only 25% from the NHS, it just about kept its financial head above water. Just about breaking even.
When Covid hit, the NHS was busy protecting itself by emptying its wards of the elderly. Our hospice, like many others, took on the caring burden. Incurring a huge increase in costs in the process, with no increase at all in funding from the NHS. As a result, now about £2 million in the red.
We do what we can to help, with more fund raising for the hospice. Usually achieving a few thousand at a time, to do what little we can.
I certainly will not be doing that to help the NHS.

This is shocking and sad.I had no idea. The State is just a machine, not just uncaring but actively encouraging euthanasia. Awful. 😔

I am not (entirely) against euthanasia but I am entirely against having it done in hospices. Whoever thought of the idea should be quietly shot.

"Assisted Dying" with the aid of a shotgun might be an interesting test case. But not very quiet.

Just when I though it couldn't possibly get worse:
Assisted dying plan outsources provision to private companies. Ministers have ‘no in-principle objection’ to outsourcing it, if the law is changed, to minimise the effect on existing NHS services. |
What could possibly go wrong?
Will any private companies make the number of "assists" a performance target? Will their sales people get bonuses for the number of "assists"?
