Whereas it really happened because of a failure to act on the information they had. The question the press should be asking is "would this man have been allowed on an El Al flight?"
Fortunately, it's incredibly difficult to bring down a plane using smuggled explosives. What worries me is what's going to happen when a terrorist hides the explosive in his arse (ass for Ishmael). Will we all have to undergo anal probes before flying or will people finally see the silliness of just using scanners to stop terrorists.

The phrase from Wiki, "Al Qaeda's multivolume terrorist training guide" is a wonderful example of secret service misdirection.
"Al-Qaeda" - no evidence that any organisation of that name exists. There are lots of states, groups and individuals which hate America and Israel. It's too risky to explain the nuances to the American people so instead the CIA invented Al-Qaeda, a shadowy organisation led by a man in a cave which can be blamed for any terrorist event. Osama is a bit like Emmanuel Goldstein in 1984
"multivolume"- brilliant! This implies a high level of sophistication which the cave-dwellers have never demonstrated.
"terrorist training guide" - Don't forget that their biggest success was supposedly achieved with box-cutters. What volume did that appear in?

There is a big problem with those scanners, in some countries (ex. Canada) it would be illegal to put anyone under 18 through them.

Interesting post.
Can you tell us why ?
My understanding is that the images do not have to be an exact replication of a body image and you could for example, have operators/scanners for different sexes or children.You might need laws to criminalise the circulation of images. e.t.c
Is this impossible?

Some child pornography laws are very strict, the taking of pictures of anyone under 18 that shows them naked would be a violation. As a result the scanners ordered for Canadian airports won't be allowed to scan anyone under 18. They are exempt.
Someone mentioned to me how several members of the Toronto-18 were under 18 years old.
edit: well, I have to correct myself, I can't find a direct quote that says the reason for the exemption, just that they are exempt and child exploitation groups are happy about the decision.

Did a bit of checking on Israeli airport security....It is based on a combination of profiling, scanning and interview. None of this you can't take toothpaste stuff. Record is impressive and only takes 30 minutes check in.
One problem.... the system is so oppressive on any Palestinian, they mostly cross the border and fly in and out via Jordan.
