Of course I'm referring to the Jewish faith.

Maybe, just maybe, it might be the right time for the Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem and Israel to announce to the world that the Jews are not the Chosen People, that this was just a silly racist lie that has gotten them in trouble from time immemorial, and that now is the time to face reality and to build bridges between races and faiths.

I'm holding my breath......one can be hopeful even in dire times.

Another unique thing about being a Jew is that it is your race too. I was listening to Esther Rantzen on the radio who like many Jews is an Agnostic, which means she does not believe or practise the faith, but still considers herself a Jew, how can that be? How can a religion be a race as well?

There are currently two Chief Rabbis of Israel.

Sephardi - Yitzhak Yosef

Ashkenazi - David Baruch Lau - Reserve Major in the Intelligence Corps - Father former Chief Rabbi too.

This is necessary because the Sephardi don't regard the Ashkenazim as Jews. However they have to apply a little bit of 'careful ignoral' because the State of Israel was (and mainly still is) an Ashkenazim project.

Ah yes Mick it is just so, for Ashkenazi read Zionist.

Every leader of Israel since its foundation has been an Ashkenazi Zionist Jew, it reminds me of the Brooderhood of the Boers who always made sure one of their own became the leader of their country of South Africa. No Orthodox Jew has ever been allowed/trusted to be the leader of Israel, all have been secular Jews.

Ben-Gurion was a fanatic and a terrorist like Begin and Shamir, he just hid it better behind a more civilised exterior. All three had one thing in common, very small men with complexes straining to be seen as big boys with absolutely no scruples at all. Mind you that was what was needed for the foundation of Israel and boy have they done well in fighting off their enemies over the years. If they had got it wrong just once that would have been the finish of the state of Israel.Apparently Ben-Gurion was a NCO in the British army at one time, the Hussars I was told.

You are ignoring an important point. Yes, the Ashkenazim controlled Israel via the Labour Party but only up till 1977. Then the Likud -- the political vehicle of the Sephardi -- took over and has generally held power ever since. Though admittedly the Likud's leadership cadres have always been Ashkenazi.

PS The Sephardi are nowadays much more 'Zionist' than the sell-outs among the haplessly and hopelessly pinko-liberal Arab-hugging Ashkenazim.

Interesting last post Mick.

I was not aware that the Sephardi had become more radical and conservative than their Ashkenazi brethren.Of course the more radical Likud party are more conservative, just look at the present leader of Israel Netanyahu, who by any stretch of imagination cannot be called a moderate or liberal in outlook.

Mind you his family were all born in America, one of his brothers a Colonel in their special forces equivalent of the SAS died at Entebbe airport in the successful rescue attempt of the Jewish hostages. He served in the special forces too.

The answer to that is political convenience. The original race appears to be the Habiru - A nomadic race of sheep herders who became known as the Hebrews. Their religion of Judaism got them known as Jews. Skip a few thousand years of history and you arrive at the Jews spread all over the world (the diaspora). When they managed to get a nation state together, the people were arriving from all over the world: Russians - who happened to be Jews; Germans - who happened to be Jews; likewise, Italians, French, Spanish and every other race under the sun. The result of five thousand years of being separated in all corners of the earth. The only thing they had in common was the fact that they were Jewish (by religion) and as they were creating a new nation, that is what made them a nation. Hence to be a Jew now defines your race as well as your religion - well, politically at least.

As to whether they should relinquish their claim to be the 'chosen of God' . . . well I don't actually have an opinion on that.

Checking the appearance of this post, it seems that I have messed up royally in the starting quote. Please forgive me as I am a rank beginner. I will learn.

Hi there David,

Interesting post regarding the foundation and history of the Jews.

As a psychologist specialising in the thoughts of others how do you read the "Chosen People" and why the Jews have not yet refuted this?
Surely this term "Chosen People" is highly counter-productive to getting on with other people and races.

Not Jew bashing, just an observation on a logical plane. By being a "Chosen People", it by definition means looking down on others ( other races ) as second class citizens.

Quite an serious error by a highly intelligent race do you not think David?

Britanicus.

To Ishmael,

Please refrain from using profanities on the forum, the F--- word is totally unacceptable to use and just shows base ignorance and lack of moral values.

I am surprised the moderator and Mick Harper have not commented and admonished Ishmael.
